After a few hours, Heche was released. Anne recounted that for the first 31 years of her life she was “insane,” attributing this to being sexually abused by her father during her childhood. To cope with this trauma, she created a fantasy realm known as the “Fourth Dimension” and assumed an alter ego named “Celestia,” receiving messages from God. In a 2001 interview on Larry King Live, Heche remarked:

“I had to live through a lot of life to get to the place where I am now. I had to see truths and work through shame, and I’m very grateful for every step that I took.“
