What is Rick Harrison’s net worth?

With a net worth of $9 million, Rick Harrison is a reality TV star and American entrepreneur. As a member of the Harrison family, he is part of the ownership of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop situated in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their family gained fame through the reality television series “Pawn Stars,” showcasing various antics and events occurring at their pawn shop.

Early Life

On March 22, 1965, Richard Kevin Harrison entered the world in Lexington, North Carolina, the son of Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr. and Joanne Harrison. He is the third child in the family, with an older sister named Sherry, who tragically passed away at the age of six, in addition to an older brother Joseph and a younger brother Chris. His father served in the U.S. Navy. When Harrison was just two years old, the family moved to San Diego due to his father’s transfer. Beginning at age eight, Harrison experienced epileptic seizures, which often kept him bedridden and sparked a lifelong passion for reading. He attended Taft Middle School in San Diego but dropped out in his sophomore year to focus on his “$2,000-a-week business of selling counterfeit Gucci bags.” In April 1981, the Harrison family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Career

After settling in Las Vegas, Harrison’s father launched their first secondhand store in 1981, which was initially a modest 300-square-foot space known as the Gold & Silver Coin Shop, located on Las Vegas Boulevard. Harrison helped out in his father’s shop during the day and repossessed cars at night. In 1986, the store upgraded to a larger location in downtown Las Vegas, but they lost the lease in 1988, prompting a move to a commercial property on Las Vegas Boulevard. For years, Harrison and his father discussed the idea of transforming their coin shop into a pawn shop, a move they felt was the logical progression of their business. However, a law from 1955 limited the issuance of new pawn shop licenses based on city population. By 1988, the population in the greater Las Vegas area exceeded 640,000. Harrison made weekly calls to the city’s statistician to inquire about applying for one of the limited pawn licenses as soon as the population hit a new threshold. This opportunity arose in 1989, leading to the acquisition of their pawn license, after which they opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop close to the Las Vegas Strip. They co-managed the store together until his father’s passing in 2018.

By 2005, the Harrisons were disbursing approximately $3 million annually in loans, generating around $700,000 in income from interest. By 2006, the pawnshop gained renown for by selling unique sports memorabilia and became a go-to spot for gamblers needing to pawn items just to afford gas to get home.

Following the feature of his shop in a 2001 PBS documentary and an appearance on Comedy Central’s Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison spent four years advocating for a television show centered on his pawn shop. The show’s concept circulated through HBO and YouTube until it caught the attention of the History Channel, which transformed it into Pawn Stars, now regarded as the highest-rated show on the network. Premiering in July 2009, Pawn Stars has run for 21 seasons and 633 episodes as of June 2023, making it the most popular show on The History Channel. Its immense success has prompted History to renew the series in groups of 80 episodes, a rather uncommon practice.

For any television show, especially a reality series, this is quite significant.

Corey Harrison, Rick’s son, currently works at the store and appears on the show alongside his childhood best friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell. On the show, Rick is known by the nickname “The Spotter” due to his talent for identifying undervalued items.

Personal Life

At the age of 17, when Harrison’s girlfriend Kim became pregnant, they decided to marry despite experiencing a miscarriage. Their first child, Corey, arrived on April 27, 1983, followed by their second child, Adam, two years later. Shortly after Adam was born, Harrison and Kim separated.

Nine months after the separation, he encountered Tracy on a blind double date, who would later become his second wife. After six months of dating, they moved in together, and eight months later, they tied the knot and took on the responsibility of parenting Corey and Adam together. Eventually, they ended their marriage.

In 2012, following two divorces, Harrison revealed his engagement to Deanna Burditt, who also had been divorced twice. They exchanged vows on July 21, 2013, in Laguna Beach, California, but divorced in September 2020. By 2021, Harrison had married Amanda Palmer.

Moreover, Rick Harrison has shown an interest in politics, having contemplated a gubernatorial run in Nevada in 2022 and now considering a U.S. Senate run in 2024.

Lawsuit

After the death of Richard “The Old Man” Harrison in 2018, Rick’s mother, Joanne, initiated a lawsuit concerning a disagreement over family assets and the ownership of their Las Vegas pawn shop. She claims that during her hospitalization in 2000/2001, Rick had her sign over her 51% stake in the business. The lawsuit further asserts that upon Richard’s death in 2018, Joanne inherited his 49% share of the pawn shop, yet Rick did not provide complete financial documentation. Joanne also alleges an inability to obtain a proper accounting of over $500,000 in cash and silver that she believes her husband gathered before his passing. She is seeking unspecified damages, an accounting of assets, and a court order that prohibits Rick Harrison from using her funds, alongside a “constructive trust” for her rightful property.

Real Estate

In 2019, Harrison put his Red Rock Country Clubhouse in Summerlin, Las Vegas, on the market for $3.99 million. This expansive 8,845-square-foot residence was constructed in 2001. He purchased the house in 2016, investing approximately $600,000 on renovations. The formal sitting room features granite flooring that has been acid-washed, cut into planks, and laid similarly to hardwood flooring, at a cost of $45,000. The property includes two bedrooms on each level, along with a gym that can be converted into an additional bedroom. There are seven bathrooms, a 12-seat home theater equipped with a 150-inch screen and curtain, and a wine cellar that can store over 1,000 bottles. An elevator and a central sound system allow music to be played in any room via a connected phone.

The front of the residence overlooks the Spring Mountains of Red Rock Canyon, while the backyard provides views of the Las Vegas Strip and the Arroyo Golf Club. The upstairs game room features a balcony at the rear of the home. The backyard boasts a lagoon-style pool, an elevated spa, and a gate leading directly to the golf course. Additionally, there is a 10-foot waterfall and a lazy river that flows into the pool, complemented by an outdoor kitchen. Harrison chose this neighborhood because his children attended high school in the area, but as they have since grown up, the family no longer requires such a spacious home.
